An inspection considers whether your proposed operation meets the council's requirements. This page is a preparation guide, not a universal pass list. Ask for the inspection guidance and byelaws used by your own authority.

Demonstrate the working day
Prepare to explain a normal appointment from arrival to room reset. A useful rehearsal is to ask a colleague to follow your instructions exactly and note every point that needs a verbal explanation. Turn those gaps into clear written steps.
Use local examples carefully
Leeds publishes detailed guidance covering cleanable treatment areas, equipment, washing facilities and staff hygiene. It is a useful example of the level of detail to expect, but another council may apply different conditions or request different evidence.
Resolve questions early
If you are unsure whether a proposed surface, basin position or reprocessing arrangement is acceptable, send the council a specific question with a photograph or plan. Buying first and asking later can create avoidable rework.
After the visit
Record the officer's actions and any deadlines accurately. Keep evidence of completed work and ask how the council wants it submitted. Use the hygiene guide to organise supporting documents. Check with your council before beginning work.
